PERSEUS DIGITAL LIBRARY - Since planning began in 1985, the Perseus Digital Library Project has explored what happens when libraries move online. Two decades later, as new forms of publication emerge and millions of books become digital, this question is more pressing than ever. Perseus is a practical experiment in which they explore possibilities and challenges of digital collections in a networked world. For the mission of Perseus and its current research Perseus maintains a web site that showcases collections and services developed as a part of reserch efforts over the years. The code for the digital library system and many of the collections that we have developed are no available.
OPEN ACCESS JOURNALS - Is a freely available, international scholary journal dedicated to making accessible the results of research across a wide range of information-related disicplines. It is privately published by Professor T.D.Wilson, Professor Emeritus of the University of Sheffield, which in-kind support from Lund University libraries (Sweden) and from the Swedish School of Library and Information Science. PUBMED - PubMed comprises more than 21 million citations for biochemical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
WOMEN AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES 1600-2000 - About a fifth of the projects on Woman and Social Movements remain freely available. The other projects, in addition to 45 000 pages of primary documents and enchanced searching tools ara available trough Gift of speech. Some of the remaining projects are paid services, or are available trough Alexandre Street Press.
GIFT OF SPEECH - Is a non-profit project, sponsored by Sweet Briar College, dedicated to preserving and creating access to speeches by inspirational, influential and contemporary women from around the world. The idea for the project originated in 1989 when Liz Kent a college librarian was asked to help a studen fin a speech by Gloria Steinem. Ms. Kent assumed it would be easy to locate a speech by Ms. Steinem and was surprised when she could not find one in any of the resources available within her small college library. But this episode made her aware of the opportunity to find a way to make it easier for secondary schools and undergraduate women to access the words of women in leadership positions.
