EU Stat - UNGA - UNSG POA on Preventing Violent Extremism - 12Feb16
We welcome connections the Plan of Action makes between preventing conflicts and preventing violent extremism. A conflict prevention and peacebuilding approach applied at all levels can indeed make a significant contribution to PVE. This approach includes promoting good governance, tackling political, social and economic exclusion and promoting human rights and opportunities for all.
Remarks by HR/VP Mogherini following the meeting with the Libyan Presidency Council and with Libyan Designate-Prime Minister al-Sarraj
8 January 2016, Tunis – “The people of Libya deserve peace and security. And I think that there is not one single Libyan today who is not tired of war, conflict and sorrow. With the Libyan political agreement, with the Presidency Council, with the Government of National Accord that we hope can be put in place soon, there is finally, after so many months, a real possibility to unite among Libyans and to try to fight terrorism.”
Joint Statement by HR/VP Mogherini and EU Commissioner Stylianides on the situation in Syria
8 January 2016, Brussels – The decision of the Syrian regime to allow humanitarian access in Madaya is a first step in the right direction; the European Union welcomes it and expects it will be fully implemented and extended by all parties to all the cities under siege.
Humanitarian access must be granted unconditionally so that aid organisations can deliver vital assistance such as food and medicines to people in need, as requested by the UN Security Council. All parties to the conflict must desist from targeting civilian facilities including schools and hospitals.
