This was straight from the horse's mouth
+Sundar Pichai:-
https://googleblog.blogspot.my/2014/09/for-next-five-billion-android-one.htmlIt was something that I've hoped to be the one thing that should have been a Nexus for everyman.... well 2 years later now and where are we at? Is there even a 10 million Android One user base?
This is 1 of the main reasons why for this Pixel backlash. Nexus as an initiative to date has been a piss poor affair globally especially round here South East Asian parts:-
1. No access to Play Store's availability.
2. No official distributors' representation.
3. Let alone marketing....There's more people who knows about Chinese OEMs like Meizu, Leagoo, Coolpad etc than Android One the Google backed project. Don't even get me started about the pain that Huawei Malaysia staff had to go through explaining about what the hell is a Nexus 6P/angler.
4. I don't need to provide empirical evidence. There's even people in Google Malaysia here. Time to ask them to live up to their paychecks and get answers.
And now this bombastic sticker shock for Pixels? Get your shit together, finish that custom SOC 1st and then we can talk about how much or why you're charging said amounts.
Until then I welcome our Chinese overlords...
