The Evolution of Consciousness

No matter how you look at it - with or without metaphysical speculations - the simple fact that BILLIONS of human minds now connect to BILLIONS of other human minds through technology, is CHANGING HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS on both an individual and global scale. In a way we can look back historically at other significant paradigm shifts in how humans share knowledge, ideas and consciousness with other humans, and see an evolution towards global consciousness:

1: Language - Humans can now share significant aspects of thought and consciousness within local communities. Limited by geography and language.

2: Writing - Humans can now share, expand and store significant aspects of thought and consciousness across local and regional communities. Limited partially by geography, language, region and education.

3: Internet - Humans can now share, expand and store, significant aspects of thought and consciousness across local, regional and global communities. Minimal limitations and near ubiquitous global access.

What will be the short and long term effects of these expanding interconnected technologies as billions of human beings share a collective technological and consciousness Noosphere?

"Are we evolving into new species with hybrid thinking interlinked into the Global Mind? At what point will the Web may become self-aware? Or is it already? Once our neocortices are seamlessly connected to the Web, how will that feel like to step up one level above human consciousness to global consciousness?"

"With exponential technological advances we become increasingly and intimately interconnected. As Kevin Kelly says “Within the next 5,000 days of the Internet, we’ll create a global neural network, which for a lack of a better word, we can call the ONE”, a living conscious entity, a single mind of billions of hyperconnected individuals with a whole array of sensory apparatus. Thus, the One will get a major eyesight upgrade when the humans will get their first bionic Internet-enabled contact lenses."

Microsoft Office Android Apps Officially Available for Chrome OS

When Google first announced that they would be adding Android app support via the Google Play Store to Chrome OS, one of the first sets of apps people were excited to receive via this update were the Microsoft Office apps for Android. Although these apps do not have all the bells and whistles of their desktop versions, they're more-or-less 'good enough', and would have been the first true Office apps available for Chromebooks (although there is a web version of Office 365).

Then, suddenly, Microsoft blocked the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps from being installed by Chrome OS users. They claimed it was because the apps were, in some unspecified way, not quite ready, though many people suspected the reasons were less noble. That the apps could be side-loaded and seemed to work well enough only fueled this speculation.

Whatever their reasons, they have finally come through, and users are beginning to see these apps, or some of them at least, available in the Play Store for Chrome users.

Are you a Chrome user with access to the Play Store, and if so, are these apps available for you yet?

Water On Mars? : Previous evidence of water on Mars now identified as grainflows | #Geology #GeologyPage #Mars

Dark features previously proposed as evidence for significant liquid water flowing on Mars have now been identified as granular flows, where sand and dust move rather than liquid water, according to a new article published in Nature Geoscience by the U.S. Geological Survey.

I hear people saying "well, I don't visit those websites anyway, soooo..."

The thing is, people, you're assuming you know what "those" websites are. You don't. You don't because you don't get to decide which websites are "those" websites. The government is going to give the choice to your Internet Service Provider.

Here's how this plays out:

Maybe Verizon is your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They also provide cable TV access. You only use them for Internet access. Suddenly, you can't access Hulu or Netflix. You try to stream the content, but it buffers endlessly.

You've always been politically active. You belong to a party, volunteer, and visit political websites that align with your beliefs. Your ISP aligns with another party. Now when you try to participate in those online discussions, the pages are slow to load. Visit the opposition's pages and they load right away.

That's how it will work.

Now, do you still think that net neutrality isn't important?
