Plant and Soil publishes original papers and review articles exploring the interface of plant biology and soil sciences, and that enhance our mechanistic understanding of plant-soil interactions. This includes both fundamental and applied aspects of mineral nutrition, plant-water relations, symbiotic and pathogenic plant-microbe interactions, root anatomy and morphology, soil biology, ecology, agrochemistry and agrophysics. Articles discussing a major molecular or mathematical component also fall within the scope of the journal. All contributions appear in the English language.

Special issue to celebrate “30 years as Editor in Chief of Plant and Soil”
In 2022, Emeritus Professor Hans Lambers will have served as Editor in Chief of Plant and Soil for 30 years. We are keen to celebrate this milestone with a Special Issue including approximately primary and review papers by authors Hans has been closely associated with, either as collaborator or supervisor or through his editorial activities. We envisage that some of the review papers would be Marschner Reviews. In addition to the papers referred to above, Commentaries and Opinion Papers would also be included.

Call for papers: Special issue on “Silicon at the root-soil interface”
This Special Issue will gather research papers that focus on rhizosphere dynamics that either assist with prediction of plant responses to Si amendments. It welcomes studies that will improve our understanding of the physiological and biochemical (rather than molecular) mechanisms plants may use to increase Si uptake. This Special Issue seeks to encourage publication of well-designed experiments that have remained unpublished because of ‘negative’ results.

Call for papers: Special issue on “Plant-soil interaction in grasslands of Mongolia plateau"
This special Issue aims to explore specific characteristics of plant-soil interaction in temperate grasslands of Mongolia plateau. We encourage submission of papers reporting on nutrient acquisition by plants, rhizosphere processes involved in nutrient mobilization and acquisition, interaction between soil microbiome and plants, as well as the effects of global change and human activity on the above-mentioned contents of plants in Mongolia plateau.
