Resource Request

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source[edit]

Tips for finding a source yourself
  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE and Taylor & Francis
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Rodong Sinmun newspaper articles/ whole paper and Pyongyang Times[edit]

I would like to use the articles for List of trolleybus systems, Trams and trolleybuses in North Korea and individual city pages listed below. Dates are in yyyy/mm/dd. Finding these articles would be extremely helpful.

  • 광부들이 사랑하는 무궤도전차, Rodong Sinmun 2013/05/25 page 4, in theory it should be on kcnawatch.org but I couldn't find it there, for Sangnong and Sangnong mine
  • 무궤도 전차생산에서 혁신, Rodong Sinmun 2001/01/28 page 3 for Trolleybuses in Pyongyang
  • 청년전위 호 부궤도전차증정식 진행, Rodong sinmun, 2002/02/12 page 1 for above
  • 명당거리에 무궤도전차 달린다, 1995/03/30 page 1 for Sangwon
  • 궤도전차화공사 본격적으로 추진, 1995/09/06 page 1
  • 세형의 궤도전차와 지하전동차가 달리게 된다 1994/02/18 page 1 for Pyongyang Metro
  • 〈붉은기 216〉호 궤도전차생산을 다그친다 1994/05/26 page 1 for Trams in Pyongyang and Tatra T6B5
  • 궤도전차길우에 새겨가는 자랑찬 위훈 1992/01/15 page 3
  • 7천마력 8축전기기관차와 궤도전차 생산 적극 추진 1990/09/18 page 1
  • 금골에 무궤도전차가 달리게 된다 1986/04/07 page 1 for Tanchon and Komdok mine
  • 특대형 무궤도전차 생산에서 새로운 혁신을 1989/05/11 page 1
  • 청진시내 기본간선의 무궤도전차화를 실현 1986/04/16 page 1 to verify for Chongjin trolleybuses
  • 은을 내는 갱내 대형무궤도전차 1985/12/10 page 1
  • 광석운반을 대형무궤도전차로 1984/08/19 page 1
  • 대형무궤도전차들이 달린다 1983/08/12 page 3
  • 무궤도전차를 타고 막장에로 1982/05/09 page 3
  • 지하막장에 대형무궤도전차가 달린다 1981/08/04 page 1
  • 소년단 창립 스무 돐을 맞으며 대형 무궤도 전차 940호를 <조선 소년단 창립 20주년 기념 소년호>로 결정 1966/05/28 page 1 for Pyongyang trolleybuses article linked above
  • 대형 무궤도 전차를 생산 1964/01/02 page 2 for Pyongyang trolleybuses
  • 평양시에 부설될 무궤도 전차망 설계 착수 1959/02/02 page 2 for history of Pyongyang trolleybuses

Furthermore, I am looking for the full paper on these days to verify existence/ opening dates of these trolleybus systems, to be used in the list, since many are missing dates and to check the unsure dates. Some trolleybus networks are dubious, and the presence in Rodong Sinmun would be good to prove their existence.

1990 World Championships and Games for the Disabled results[edit]

Hello. I'm looking for 1990 World Championships and Games for the Disabled results to verify that Patrick Jarvis competed at these Games and his placings/events for my draft on him with any of the following sources:

  • World Championships and Games for the Disabled – Athletics Results. Netherlands: Organising Committee. 1990 (found cited in Wikipedia).
  • World championships for the disabled : Athletics track events 1990 official results. 1990. OCLC 1260408771.
  • "More than just a game - 1990 World Championships and Games for the Disabled". Sports N'spokes. Vol. 16 no. 4. pp. 17–23.

His International Paralympic Committee profile does mention it, but I'd like to have a more thorough source if possible. If a source listed does not mention Jarvis, please let me know so I can cross it off. Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:39, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[]

Trying to find 1993 La Crosse Tribune article on Fond du Lac Ojibwe School[edit]

For Fond du Lac Ojibwe School

I was searching Newspapers.com after on another page I found a reference:

I went to search "Fond du Lac Ojibwe school: With new school comes renewed pride " on Newspapers.com but only found a reference to the "Reader Direct Daily Menu" page, which talks about getting faxes of the latest news. Are there issues of this newspaper missing from Newspapers.com? Is there a query I'm not doing right here? I'm thinking there's an article published in that newspaper in 1993 about this school...

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 21:19, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[]

This was for a fax service provided by the newspaper. There is no actual article in the newspaper: [1] (left column) - Floydian τ ¢ 21:26, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[]
@WhisperToMe: FYI. —Bruce1eetalk 21:31, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[]
@Floydian: @Bruce1ee: I was thinking the listing meant that there was some recorded form of the article. If it was only distributed by fax and never printed I guess I'd need to contact the newspaper itself. WhisperToMe (talk) 23:59, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[]

@Aizag: What pages do you need? We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. --Timk70 (talk) 00:40, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[]
@Timk70: Sorry, sir. Can you give me the page 1 to 95, and the page 207 to 233? Thanks.--Aizag (talk) 14:17, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[]

Aizag, generally speaking, just be aware that if you request 120 pages from a work, the likelihood of the request getting fulfilled is rather low (for any of the following reason(s): legal limits in some jurisdictions; because libraries won't supply this many pages though an ILL "scan" request; because people are reluctant to spend the time to scan 120 pages). Besides, at least from where I come from, vast parts of the book (and the requested page ranges) can be accessed via the Google Books preview: See here at Google Books. — Pajz (talk) 06:44, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[]

All right, I got it, thanks.--Aizag (talk) 12:55, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Chapter 16 of Tom Karen's Toymaker?[edit]

Evening all,

Having been linked here from a happily resolved chat about possible copyright disputes through Google Books, thought I’d give this a shot.

Is anyone able to produce a copy of Chapter 16 of Tom Karen's Toymaker autobiography? It seems the author is talking about their time as a designer at Ogle Design, responsible for the design of the Dennis fire line of the 1980s, and I wonder whether there is anything to learn from that to add into any articles.

Think this is how it goes:

For Dennis RS series, Dennis SS series, Dennis DS series, etc.

New York World[edit]

I'm looking for an article from 1865 in the New York World. the secondary source I have a picture of gives some clues to the article: A reporter visited the Pompey stone at the Albany Institute of History and Art with a "Dr. O'Callaghan" (presumably Edmund Bailey O'Callagha), Henry C. Murphy, and a James Hall. It includes the quote "It was found very carefully put away in a glass case and covered with a dust that indicated that for some years, at least, its quiet had not been disturbed." and "It must be remembered that this stone was found when there was no pecuniary inducement for the forging of such relics." That's all I know, I no longer have the secondary source. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Eddie891 Talk Work 14:06, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[]

@Epicgenius: Could you help with this one? Newspaperarchive doesn't have coverage for 1865. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:19, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[]
I just checked. Sadly, this time period seems to be out of the newspapers.com, ProQuest, or Gale's coverage, both from Wikipedia's and the New York Public Library's collection. I can check in-person at the NYPL on Tuesday though. – Epicgenius (talk) 19:39, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Two books[edit]

The first book seems to be hard to find, I haven't found any OCLC of it and it isn't in Google Books, so it might not be possible to access it.

I would like to have full access to these books and see what I can take from them to add to articles related to the Istro-Romanians. They were the first two books in the Istro-Romanian language, so they are (or should be) valuable. Many thanks in advance. Super Ψ Dro 16:25, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[]

I have access to the second but I'm not going to scan the entire book. The notice at the top of this page also specifically states that "We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright". Therefore I'm not sure how this request is supposed to be fulfilled. — Pajz (talk) 07:30, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[]
Would it be possible for me to get one third of the book out of this request and ask for the other two thirds later in the future? If not, what is the limit that I can ask for here? Half of the book, a third, or less? Super Ψ Dro 08:24, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[]
I have access to the first. TrangaBellam (talk) 11:57, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[]
Super Dromaeosaurus, sorry for the late response, I missed your reply. Well, that's impossible to say, since it is based on legal and practical consideration, which both are different for different individuals. The only more or less common ground is that scans of full works are typically not possible. A third of the volume would be fine with me, just let me know which part you would be interested in (the first 63 pages?). Someone else may be able to help with other parts in the future (or now). — Pajz (talk) 18:47, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[]
Pajz, yes, I'd be more than happy with the first 63 pages. Sorry for first having requested a full scan. Would it be possible for me to make a request to get another other third of the book in the next few months? (in 3-6 months, or more if necessary, I can wait)?
TrangaBellam, the book is from before the 1920s and the author died more than 70 years ago. Are there copyright problems with requesting the whole of the first book? If so, I'd have enough with the first 30 or 40 pages of the book. It is shorter than the second book but I don't know if that allows me to order half of it or if only a third is acceptable in this case as well. Super Ψ Dro 19:46, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[]
Super Dromaeosaurus, have you checked Wikisource? I can scan the full book but will take a month. TrangaBellam (talk) 19:19, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[]
TrangaBellam, yes, I am aware that there are parts of the book in Wikisource, but it is incomplete. I can wait as much time as needed, so I have no problem with it in case you scan it. Super Ψ Dro 19:35, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[]
@Super Dromaeosaurus: Both works appear to have been published in Romania, where copyright lasts 70 years beyond the author's death. Andrei Glavina died in 1925, so that work is in the public domain in Romania (and by extension, the United States). Alexandru Leca Morariu [ro] died in 1963, so his work is still protected for another 12 years. Compassionate727 (T·C) 16:43, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Super Dromaeosaurus, sent #2, up to and including p 57. Unfortunately, I couldn't scan pp 58-63 at this point since many of the pages beyond 58 are unopened to such an extent that I was unable to separate them myself without damaging the book (apparently I'm the first person since 1928 to reach page 58...). I will have to check back with library staff, not sure how long this will take. — Pajz (talk) 18:57, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Doing... #3 & #4 (probably on Tuesday). The others are not as easy for me to access (different library; mandatory pre-registration and limited access due to Covid; etc), so hopefully someone else is in a better position to help with those, but if not, you can give me a ping. Oh, and I don't have access to #5. Seems like quite a challenge. There used to be someone here who occasionally visits the British Library, so perhaps they could help, although it seems somewhat dubious if anyone would even be allowed to reproduce a 20-page volume from 1876 by themselves (I wouldn't where I live). Maybe through ILL (as photocopies). — Pajz (talk) 07:08, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Two books[edit]

To improve Dutch conquest of the Banda Islands. I would like to cite specific pages (currently the citation has a wide page range) and also add more information or context. Danu Widjajanto (talk) 09:27, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[]

Danu Widjajanto, I'm slightly confused about #1. You're linking to (the Google preview of) an epub version - which does not have page numbers - and the ISBN also appears be that of the epub version. So where does your page range come from? I can access the book here as a paperback (ISBN 9789045038780), but scanning those pages is only going to make sense if that page range is based on the printed book or some layout-preserving electronic version of it. — Pajz (talk) 21:59, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[]

@Pajz sorry I totally missed your message! I am really sorry! I got the page range from Dutch conquest of the Banda Islands, I needed them to confirm the accurateness of the pincite. Doing... (probably on Monday). TrangaBellam, it happens to most people here that we sometimes think we can obtain something within a day but it ends up taking a month for whatever reason, be it personal or on the library's part. Since the purpose of this page is providing literature to other users, however, I suppose it's generally desirable to leave a note when the time we are likely to need substantially exceeds the time we suggested it would take, or when it turns out that we aren't able to fulfill the request at all. Otherwise, everyone else is left in a guessing game as to whether or not the request is still being worked on -- and if it is not, the user has been left waiting for no good reason. At this point I assume it isn't actively being worked on, though feel free to let me know if that assumption is incorrect. — Pajz (talk) 02:44, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Fortunately, most libraries attempt to collect books in their entirety. On a more serious note, the issue is that full copies of books cannot be provided through this page for legal (and, to the extent they need to be scanned, obvious practical) reasons. @GreenC: Thanks. I was aware of the source, and surprised to find out that the whole book was on Wayback Machine. Sadly, after having skimmed a bit through it regarding the He-Man parts, there doesn't seem to be anything relating to the character's queerness. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 15:46, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[]
OK well worth a try. FWIW Wayback Machine is actually a separate service. The archive.org text collection is a library of scanned books, a peer of Google Books. Like how Google has many products so does archive.org .. like conflating Google Search with Google Books. Just saying since it's a common misunderstanding. The archive.org collection is comparable in size and scope to Google Books, many thousands of new books are added every day. -- GreenC 19:01, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[]

This review of the book I found apparently discusses a portion of the book that deals with He-Man. Maybe from there I can figure out which pages I need. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 07:59, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[]

For Carlo Maria Giulini Under his "early life" section it states, "Therefore, most of the neighbors spoke a dialect of German, and the local music he heard tended to be Austrian/Tyrolean. He recalled being transfixed by the town band." It does list the book, however, I do not have access to the book and it is too far to go get. Need a Biography Section from "The Magic Pen of Joseph Clement Coll"[edit]

For Joseph Clement Coll. I am inable to find much information about the book but I believe the book contains information about Joseph Clement Coll's upbringing, artistry, and work. As I cannot find info about what's actually in the book, I am asking for just any section that deals with Coll's childhood.

2019 source from The Athletic (web)[edit]

Hello. I'm looking for a full copy of this 2019 article from The Athletic:

  • Russo, Kelsey (August 23, 2019). "Assistant coach Mike Petersen adds experience, positive outlook to Dream". The Athletic.

The link above has some of the article covered by a paywall, and I'd like to see if there's more content I can add to my draft on Mike Petersen (basketball). Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:00, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[]

I tried to find it in ProQuest and EBSCO but failed. I'm not sure if there's another option other than having a subscription (or free trial, which is offered). – Anon423 (talk) 16:37, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[]
