COPE brings together all those involved in scholarly research and its publication to strengthen the network of support, education and debate in publication ethics
Our core practices
Core practices are the policies and practices journals and publishers need, to reach the highest standards in publication ethics. We include cases with advice, guidance for day-to-day practice, education modules and events on topical issues, to support journals and publishers fulfil their policies.
As editors experience publication ethics issues that are not straightforward we discuss them at the COPE Forum. In 2022 topics we discussed: editorial CoI; complaints about published research; issues around conference proceedings; and author behavioural misconduct.
What is the role of the editor when harmful or criminal actions by authors come to light?
Academic misconduct, articles published at two journals, reviewer misconduct, exception to review policy, and guest editor for single articles. The latest cases with advice from the COPE Forum
