Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request
Finding a source[edit]
- Tips for finding a source yourself
- Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email
- Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription
- Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories
- Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni—many do, for a small fee
Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.
- Making a request
- A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
- All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
- We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for
- You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
- To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
- Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
- Filled requests are archived.
- Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Fulfilling a request[edit]
- Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
- Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
- Notify (mention) the requester using
{{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}} - You can:
- point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
- share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
- upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
- email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.
Copyright tips:
- Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
- Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
- Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
- Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Review of The Plumed Serpent[edit]
Hello, I am looking for the text of P. Kaganoff's review of The Plumed Serpent in Publishers Weekly, for use at the article The Plumed Serpent. Publication details: 4/13/1992, Vol. 239 Issue 18, p56. ISSN 0000-0019. Note that EBSCO has only a listing of the review, not its text.
Thanks, FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 09:48, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- @FreeKnowledgeCreator: I presume you've seen the online version? Also: Gale has full text coverage from January 5, 1990 - Current. However, I checked Gale and there's only the citation for some reason. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:52, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- The review you linked to above is dated "Reviewed on: 06/01/1992". The review I requested is dated "4/13/1992". They could be the same review, posted on different dates, in which case Kaganoff's review is not helpful. However, if they are different reviews, I'd still like to see Kaganoff's. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 00:41, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gale doesn't have it on June 1st 1992. I suspect that date is incorrect or the online date of publication. Again, Gale doesn't have a fulltext of April 13th (though it should), so someone else would need to confirm whether the online version matches the print version. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:59, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333 and FreeKnowledgeCreator: When I looked into this on Friday, I found a number of book reviews by Kaganoff in the April 13, 1992 issue and other issues of Publishers' Weekly on Gale, but none of the entries were reviews of The Plumed Serpent. Did you find something my previous search missed? —Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:09, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Compassionate727: It's still there on Gale. The Plumed Serpent Publishers Weekly. 239.18 (Apr. 13, 1992): p56. Problem is it's blank when it should be full-text. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:49, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

- @FreeKnowledgeCreator: I am told that my college library has this somewhere in its microfiche collection. I will try to get a scan for you in the next couple of days. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 19:04, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- @FreeKnowledgeCreator: Oh, you'll enjoy this (I hope). So, I checked the microfiche. Turns out, the "review" is actually a summary, and a 30-word one at that. I can't be bothered to obtain your email address and send a PDF of such a thoroughly useless item, so I was just going to copy the thing in full here. But I actually don't even need to do that, because the webpage MrLinkinPark333 linked to back on July 12 is the "review," in full. Lmao. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 18:46, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
SERNAGEOMIN/Geological Map of Chile[edit]
Greetings, has someone access to this publication? "Naranjo, J.A.; Villa, V; Venegas, C. 2013b. Geología de las áreas Salar de Aguilar y Portezuelo del León Muerto, Región de Atacama. - What is the year number and volume number for this? Is 151-152 the page number? – b_jonas 12:36, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- @B jonas:Sorry for the delay in responding. According to [1] 151-152 is the issue. The ISSN is ISSN 0717-7283 if that helps. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:49, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Gale Cengage Learning, Smithsonian Collections Online: Evolution of Flight, 1784-1991[edit]
Have already posted this request here last year, but without any success, so another try. Can someone here access "Bulletin de renseignements", which ist part of Gale Cengage Learning, Smithsonian Collections Online: Evolution of Flight, 1784-1991.--Antemister (talk) 18:09, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- Antemister, I haven't checked your last request, but if nobody with access responded back then, perhaps OhanaUnited can help this time (see U Toronto catalogue)? Either way you'll have to indicate which article(s) you are interested in. Best, — Pajz (talk) 18:33, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- OK, maybe it is possible now. Once someone with access is found, I'll send the respective person an eMail with an attached PDF which includes the desired issues, that seems to be easier than writing it here.--Antemister (talk) 20:43, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Antemister and Pajz: I only have access to 5 issues (2 from 1924 and 3 from 1929). Unless your requested material is from either year, it's unlikely I will have access to what you want. OhanaUnitedTalk page 00:49, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- Sounds good! Because it might be better if you have a look at the parallel issue in English. If you search for "International Commission for Air Navigation" in the Smithsonian Libraries (sorry, there seems to be no permalink), you'll find a relatively complete collection of their "Bulletin of information.", while the "Bulletin de renseignements." of the [Paris?] : Service Technique de l'Aeronautique seems to be both incorrectly categorized and very incomplete. As the Smithsonian Institution is in the US, it is of course likely that they have the english issues rather than the French one, even if this is not stated in the Worldcat. OhanaUnited, can you access that english version? And could you send me an eMail, so that I can sent you the mentioned PDF?--Antemister (talk) 15:33, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Antemister: In Smithsonian's website, it presents an overview followed by a collection of links in that archive (there are 10+ links). As per my general principle, I don't reveal my personal email to others. I uploaded the overview page along with the headings. Please let me know which section you would like to take a look. OhanaUnitedTalk page 01:22, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- What I am doing is developing a List of busiest airports by passenger traffic for the the pre-war years. The data was collected bei CINA/ICAN, ICAO's predecessor and published within their Bulletin de renseignements/Bulletin of information. Most, but not all of these statistics were also published in secondary sources. I have already gotten a complete table of contents from the French national archives, see at Workuplod, in which I have marked the tables I could not find in secondary sources They are unfortunately very scatterd through the hundreds of issues published. @OhanaUnited, can you show me what is behind that link Bulletin of information? Is it possible to download PDFs?--Antemister (talk) 11:07, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Antemister: The way they archive things is a complete mess. There is no systemic way to navigate unless I stumble upon the correct keyword. They are scanned as images but don't group things into a table in sequential order, but by country/airlines/routes. There're close to 2000 items in this archive so I can't go through them one by one. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:41, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- @OhanaUnited: could you just upload a copy of that messy page? Perhaps I can sort out from there waht I am looking for.--Antemister (talk) 07:58, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Sadly the page didn't work that way. It only shows the title of the page without describing which airline/route the page is about and most entries share the same title other than the year. And it only displays about 5 entries within the screen so I can't just printscreen them and let you sort them out. OhanaUnitedTalk page 18:46, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- OK, seems not that easy as it sounds... :-( Anyway, another issue: The material you find there, is it that ICAN Bulletin of information?--Antemister (talk) 21:53, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Some articles from UK game magazines[edit]
Hello guys, looking for particular reviews from some old UK game magazines. I have articles about those games in Russian Wikipedia, which I want to improve further. There's no point in asking there, no one from Russian Wikipedia posseses these magazines. And of course we don't have libraries with UK magazines in Russia. Hoping to find some luck here.
Thanks, Coolak (talk) 06:17, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
An article from Dutch Gameplay video game magazine (March 2006)[edit]
- "Winx Club". Gameplay. March 2006.
Also looking for this one. There's no interwiki for Netherlandish Wikipedia on this page, so also asking here. Coolak (talk) 14:36, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

one page from Texas Biographical Dictionary third edition[edit]
Hello. I am looking for page 352 only of this book for my draft on William S. White.
- Onofrio, Jan (1996). Texas Biographical Dictionary. 2 (Third ed.). Somerset Publishers Inc. p. 352. ISBN 040309951X.
I have 353-354 via GBooks and unfortuantely 352 isn't available. This is from the second volume of the third edition. Thank you! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:45, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333:
Sent page 352. —Bruce1eetalk 06:14, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Bruce1ee: Thank you, but that's not what I'm looking for. I presume it's the wrong edition. See here --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 13:39, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: The edition I looked at is this one, and I can see page 352. Now if you click on "About this book" in the left column of my edition and look at the "Bibliographic information" at the bottom of the page, it matches the corresponding "Bibliographic information" of the edition you looked at. What is interesting is that the page 352 I can see now, isn't the same as the one I saw earlier. I think Google Books is playing games with me! —Bruce1eetalk 14:30, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Bruce1ee: It also could be that the url I have has both volume 1 and volume 2 (with the same page numbers). I need volume 2. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 14:45, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: Have you received this page? If not, Bruce1ee, would you please try again? I'm suspecting the page you saw the second time, which you say is different than what you initially sent, is the one that MrLinkinPark333 is looking for, and you seem to be the only one with access to it. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:24, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Compassionate727: The page I found has the biography of Carl Urbantke, not William S. White. As MrLinkinPark333 pointed out above, it seems I'm looking at the wrong edition. —Bruce1eetalk 13:36, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Bruce1ee: Ah. You said above,
"the page 352 I can see now, isn't the same as the one I saw earlier"
, which I took to mean that you had found something else after MrLinkinPark333 said you provided him the wrong thing. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:39, 4 September 2019 (UTC)- @Compassionate727: Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear last month. - I see no realistic chance of this getting filled through this page. Also, while I do not know what you intend to do with it, this being an unpublished License thesis (~ Bachelor's thesis) it would very likely not qualify as a reliable source under Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Scholarship ("Masters dissertations and theses are considered reliable only if they can be shown to have had significant scholarly influence" [Bachelor's theses are not even mentioned]). Also, as per the instructions at the top, "We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright" (this thesis is over 100 pages long, according to the RERO record, [2]). Best, — Pajz (talk) 14:22, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info! I have posted an honors bachelors' thesis (publicly posted) from the 1960s - a time when way fewer people were getting degrees - in a references section for a Russian novel, a topic with not a lot of English sources about it. The Japanese School of Geneva doesn't seem to have a lot of published sources and I was hoping this document would help, but the unpublished bit if anything concerns me.
- I'm a bit surprised a bachelor's thesis would be over 100 pages in length. My American bachelors' degree theses were about 25 pages or so, if I can recall correctly. Anyhow since it's lengthy to the point where the full work is not available, I would instead ask for the table of contents and/or index so I know what's inside and I can request specific parts/pieces I need. If this was published, even if it was a bachelor's thesis, I'd be happy to get the table of contents and/or the index.
- WhisperToMe (talk) 03:40, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- Pajz, ETH Zurich says "In order not to discriminate against holders of the «old» Licentitate/Diploma, it declares these officially equivalent to the «new» Master's degree." So this should be equivalent to a master's degree. However, if it is indeed unpublished it would still be a roadblock. This degree is from 1988 so this seems to be from before Bologna.
- The RERO profile does say the work is available although I don't know if it is electronically available or if one must scan pages in person. Either way for now if it's a published work I would like just the table of contents and/or index so I can determine what content is inside it.
- WhisperToMe (talk) 03:59, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- WhisperToMe, sure, just a note that a Lizenziat thesis is not the same as a Mémoire de licence. The Lizenziat was the old equivalent to the German Diplom (usually a 5-year programme) and is indeed comparable to a Master's Degree, a mémoire de licence is something that I've only ever come across in the French-speaking part of Switzerland where it completes a 3-year programme (an "undergraduate" programme in Switzerland/Germany). So one has to be a bit careful there. (Not that that would make me much of an expert but I've studied in Switzerland - it's all a bit confusing ...) The RERO record just says there are two physical copies in Geneva, I'm confident that no electronic version exists. If you want a small portion, you could ask their university library, maybe you're lucky. Best, — Pajz (talk) 09:19, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- That is quite interesting! I would like to find some documents about the differences in the university systems of the Swiss regions so I can cite the info in that section. Anyhow I made a post on FRwiki and I'll also contact the university library directly. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:07, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

I am looking for more information about the cyclist Ernst Feja who died in an accident on the Oerlikon track in 1927 for List of cyclists with a cycling-related death (Ernst Feja entry). I will need the information translated into English. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 04:59, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- Shearonink, I have some doubts this request - as it stands - will ever get filled since in addition to this book not being held widely by libraries outside of Switzerland, I am also not aware that any of the regular users of this page speak German (except for me, and I do not have the time to provide you with a translation unless it's just a sentence). On the other hand, if you can find another way to get it translated, I may be able to help you obtain a copy of the page. — Pajz (talk) 19:31, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
- Ok thanks anyway. Shearonink (talk) 00:56, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

- @Kansas Bear: I can't find either the book or the author in WorldCat. My guess is you're not going to have much luck with this one. Maybe come back in a six or twelve months? —Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:12, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Kansas Bear, based on the description in the publisher's online shop (here), specifically the release model (via Google Translate: "BOOK IS THE FIRST 2 MONTHS EXCLUSIVELY FOR SALE VIA TASMIM.NL Then via Bol.com and Islamic bookshops."), I'm a bit doubtful if you will ever find that work in a research/public library. I would also note that there are few hints that this book project might not be an entirely scholarly endavour (the purpose of the book is described as helping people "find their identity"; there is no information whatsoever on the author; etc.), so - without making any statement on that issue myself - I think you might want to check again if this is a good source for a history-related article. 66th Infantry Division (United Kingdom)[edit]
I am currently expanding the 66th Infantry Division (United Kingdom), a British Army division that was active for less than a year. I have the created the basic outline of the division's history, but the article could do with some specific details. I have been able to identify these two sources as ones that could add a little more detail to the article. The page numbers for Surtees are rough based off what I could access, the pages that deal with the 2/5th, 2/6th, and 2/8th Battalions are the ones that are relevant to the article. Many thanks EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 00:49, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

- I checked the paper from a weird terminal (that does not allow you to do anything save hands-free viewing) but did not spot anything remotely relevant, as to the topic, on a rapid glance-through. There was a mention of the name in one of the sources over the bibliography, though.
- If you do suspect strongly that the paper contains something relevant, I can get you mobile-photo-captures of the terminal screen within a couple of days ..... ∯WBGconverse 17:49, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

1914 Daily Mail reference for 2nd Boer War[edit]
Tidying up references, and this one is missing an article title or similar. www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk returns snippets based on searches, but restricts full view.
I've tried various searches (like this) but have not found anything related to the citation.

- Perhaps OhanaUnited can help you obtain this article through the Daily Mail Historical Archive (U Toronto Libraries). — Pajz (talk) 10:04, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Pajz, Compassionate727, and Quuux: I can't attest to the validity of information in newspaper back in 1914, but I should point out that there was an RfC on using Daily Mail as reference and concluded that it should generally not be used as a source on Wikipedia. OhanaUnitedTalk page 01:36, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Quuux and OhanaUnited: The RfC closure acknowledges that
"the Daily Mail may have been more reliable historically"
, so I think we're to use our best judgement on this one. (Unfortunately, we can't form a judgement without the actual source!) The original citation employed this syntax:{{Daily Mail|issue=5810|supp=|startpage=4|date=16 November 1914|issn = 0307-7578}}; Template:Daily Mail is redlinked. When I check the page logs, I see nothing, which would suggest that this template never existed, but it would be highly unusual for an erroneous link to a template that never existed to have an empty parameter, as this happens when someone copies and pastes the skeleton parameters from the template's documentation. @Jo-Jo Eumerus: would you check whether or not this page ever existed, and if it did, paste the last stable version into my sandbox? There's a slim chance I'll able to glean some of the missing bibliographic info from the template's code. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 17:34, 4 October 2019 (UTC)- Checked and didn't find anything. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:51, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
- Well, that leaves us back at square one. Because it doesn't look like we're going to be able to fix the citation or verify that the source is reliable, I think the play is to remove it, which I have done for now. I'll leave this open though in case anyone does find it. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 21:10, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

- Winged Blades of Godric, the case cite is Davies v. Leland Stanford Junior University Board of Trustees, No. H 006734 (Cal. Ct. App., Sept. 3, 1991), pet. for review den., 1991 Cal. LEXIS 5612 (Dec. 11, 1991). Since the decision is unpublished, it is uncertain whether it is available through a legal database -- personally, I cannot find it in Lexis/Westlaw (but the scope of access varies) and https://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov/search.cfm?dist=6 does not give a case citation, so you may ultimately need to get in touch with the clerk's office of the 6th District Court of Appeal. — Pajz (talk) 16:00, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

1980s California Ballot Measure Voting Data[edit]
I'm looking for detailed election data for California ballot measures going back to at least the 1980s. I'm specifically looking for a source to improve 1986 California Proposition 65, but the data I'm looking for could of course be used to improve any number of similar articles.
A Google search finds this archive from the California Secretary of State's office but that only goes back to 1990. I also found a UC Hastings database, which has pamphlets and other good resources on ballot measures but no detailed election data. And I checked over my local library's databases, as well as my alma mater's, and found nothing relevant.
Is anyone aware of a database that has detailed voting data for California ballot measures in the 1980s?

Free images of Jo Ann Kelly[edit]
I've been trying to find a copyright-free or Creative Commons photo of Jo Ann Kelly ("Jo-Ann Kelly" during her early career, 1960s) for her article and coming up empty. She died in 1990 so almost all the photos are from old magazine articles or liner notes of LP/CD releases. So generally under copyright and it's often not clear who is the copyright owner of various photos, much less how to contact them. Such images don't really fall under WP's non-free guidelines. I've come to the end of my abilities so any input would be extremely helpful. For Jo Ann Kelly
